An Elevated Kids Playhouse

Have you ever seen a kids playhouse that was elevated off the ground?  The parents who built this particular elevated playhouse said it was a compromise between a playhouse and treehouse. Also, the kids thought an elevated playhouse was a wonderful idea. Since the parents liked the concept so much, and it didn’t hurt that a neighbor friend also had an elevated playhouse in their backyard, they decided to build one themselves.

Being above ground, an elevated playhouse allows for kids to be much more imaginative in their play. For fun, kids can pretend the playhouse is a battle ship, intergalactic space ship, or secret hide-away in the clouds.  The point is, having an elevated playhouse seems to encourage more creative play than a traditional, non-elevated playhouse.

To get up to the playhouse, one has to climb a ladder which makes it geared soley for kids.  If one climbs the playhouse ladder, it takes you to a quaint wooden deck with railed sides.  The deck, which overlooks the family’s backyard, has enough room to hold two kid-sized patio chairs and a small table. Intended to be in the open area opposite the ladder, the parents had wanted to build a fireman’s pole for kids to slide down. The fireman’s pole was never built, although the thought was well intended.

The kids playhouse itself is fairly small, 8 foot x 10 foot, and has tan vinyl exterior siding.  It has a full sized screened door and several windows that can be easily opened. Inside the playhouse is a couch, table and some smaller pieces of furniture because the playhouse is so small. The playhouse is currently being used as a clubhouse by the teenage children.

There were many visitors to the playhouse, especially because the playhouse has elecricity and a tv which is hooked up to a playstation. Thus, to keep the neighborhood children at bay when the family is not in the playhouse, a lock is placed on the door.

At one time, a mini refrigerator had been stocked with sodas and had been in the kids playhouse. Unfortunately, the idea took off and the family’s children started drinking a lot of soda. After some consideration, the Mother removed the mini refrigerator as she didn’t want her kids to drink so much soda.

Although it wasn’t added, originally, the parents had wanted to build a loft as part of the playhouse.

Kids aren’t the only one’s to enjoy a playhouse. The Mom has admitted to escaping to the playhouse to take naps and reading books.  I guess you could say this elevated kids playhouse is for all the members of a family!
